Climate action is largely assessed through production-based emissions, yet global supply chains tell a very different story.

Goods consumed in one country are often produced in another, shifting emissions across borders and masking the true drivers of climate impact. Consumption-based emissions offer an alternative lens — one that reallocates responsibility to final demand and exposes how trade, lifestyle, and purchasing power shape global carbon flows.

Our guest speaker, Dr. Raekwon Chung, talks about why consumption-based metrics matter for climate policy, carbon accounting, and climate justice.

Prof. Chung is a South Korean environmental diplomat, IPCC member, and Nobel Peace Prize laureate (2007) recognized for his work on climate change. As a key expert on green growth, he currently serves as the Chairman of the International Award Committee for The Global Energy Prize.
