Impacts of CBAM on Asian Countries
This webinar aims to celebrate the winning thesis of the call for proposals established with the University of Turin, written by Dr. Luca Sardo, entitled "The effects of the Carbon border adjustment mechanism on the economies of the East Asia and Pacific region".
"Tesi per il Clima" is a non-profit initiative promoted by Aequilibria Srl-SB with the aim of encouraging and promoting research on climate change and related topics, rewarding the most deserving theses.
Luca Sardo analyzed the effects of the European carbon tax on the economies of the European Union's main trading partners, showing how the countries of Southeast Asia and South Korea, by exporting large quantities of carbon-intensive goods to Europe, are the most at risk of suffering the economic impacts of this tax.
These countries, which are heavily reliant on fossil fuels and export carbon-intensive goods to the EU, face significant risks in terms of exposure and vulnerability to climate change.
In this regard, Luca Sardo hypothesized a possible revision of this instrument, consistent with the criteria of climate justice and equity.
