A discussion on the process, challenges and opportunities in establishing mutual recognition between carbon footprint programmes towards global sustainability effors.

Carbon quantification and verification are vital in demonstrating the basis of any company’s climate commitment. Programme Operators around the globe, such as those united under the Carbon Footprint International Alliance (CFIA), lead this effort.

While collaboration within CFIA fosters shared goals, some programmes are taking a step further by signing Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs)—paving the way for seamless cross-registry integration and expanded market opportunities.

Last November, a landmark MRA was signed between the South Korean International Product Environmental Footprint (IPEF) Programme and the Italian Carbon Footprint Italy (CFI), enabling companies registered in one system to gain recognition in the other .
